| Joe Potter is not your traditional psychic healer. He was born with the gift of empathy and learned very quickly to deny it and treat it as a dysfunction instead of a gift. At a very early age, he was able to sense peoples’ emotional states and even received visions of the events that had changed their lives. In an effort to avoid the meta-physics, Joe opted for studying the physical world, instead. Attending the University of Florida and the University of South Florida, he graduated cum laude with a degree in Engineering. From there he was immediately recruited into the technology world of IBM in Bethesda, Maryland and spent many years in the “dot.com” industry. He held several positions in that industry: Technical Support, Developer, Project Manager, Business Development; but his favorite, by far, was his work as a Course Developer and Instructor. Possessing the gift to impart knowledge in a language easily understood by audiences of all levels, he shined while his students excelled. By the late 1990’s, Joe had accumulated a net worth that was not uncommon for “dot.com” workers of that time. He was “living the dream”, replete with all the material trappings that seemed to define success. Yet, something was missing and Joe was feeling the pull to make a change. His heart was speaking to him and he didn’t listen. Inevitably, his "dot.com" world came crashing down and, still ignoring his heart’s desire, he jumped from technology into the world of mortgages. Joe had more lessons to learn as he embarked on his second career. Although he was once again dubbed a “material” success, he felt empty and knew there was more to life. His spiritual well-being and personal happiness were on the verge of extinction. Joe entered what he calls his “Dark Night of the Soul” (see Dark Night of the Soul by St. John of the Cross) In an effort to find himself, he turned to workshops, retreats, and therapy. Though they were helpful, none of them were giving him the answers he needed. Through a series of synchronistic events, Joe found himself spending a month as a live-in student of world renowned teacher/healer, Zeffi Keffalla in Sedona, Arizona. There he “re-” learned that he could only find the answers he was searching for by looking within himself. It was during that month that he was re-introduced to the world of healing and intuition; finally connecting with his life’s purpose. Joe’s awakening was so profound that he could no longer deny his calling. He promptly gave up his mortgage business in San Francisco, and moved to Sedona to practice as a psychic; conducting readings, healing, and spiritual coaching. He fully immersed himself in the Sedona energy and worked at the famed Center for the New Age. More recently, Joe was led to Los Angeles, California where he continues his spiritual journey and work as a psychic healer. Joe recently worked full-time at a transitional living program in Hollywood, CA where he worked with homeless 18 to 24 year-old clients who were dealing with major life challenges; including histories of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, HIV, and various addictions. He holds a Master's in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. Joe has been teaching professionally for over 15 years and has spent several years as a spiritual life coach, counselor, and healer. In addition, he has extensive experience in working one-on-one with clients, and in creating and facilitating workshops and classes for up to 300 people. He also sits on the board of directors of Wellness Works (www.wellnessworksglendale.org), a healing center in Glendale, CA. Joe is now on a journey that includes workshops, writings, healing, and ever-changing travels into the work of helping others find their own spiritual centers. |
